(The Post News) – The Gauteng Traffic Police (GTP) has called on the public to prioritise their safety as they travel with their families and friends to celebrate Heritage Day. Thousands of people are expected to travel to attend different cultural gatherings and events across Gauteng and beyond.
Every September 24, South Africans unite to celebrate Heritage Day, a public holiday that honors the nation’s rich cultural diversity and shared history.
As the country commemorates Rainbow Nation today the department urged road users to exercise caution, patience and to adhere to traffic laws. Motorists were reminded to drive within the prescribed speed limits, avoid driving under the influence of alcohol, and always ensure that vehicles were roadworthy before travelling.
The GTP also urged the public to respect and safeguard the heritage sites they visit, and to report any form of vandalism to their nearest police station. “Let us celebrate our rich history and culture by embracing our collective responsibility to build a safer, more secure Gauteng for all,” it said.
GTP said it will maintain a strong presence on Gauteng roads to ensure compliance and act against lawbreakers and also urged the public to make safety their top priority.
