(The Post News) – Less than two weeks before her wedding day, a young woman’s dreams were shattered when her fiance, Mogamat Yusuf Daniels, was killed in a tragic shooting during what should have been a routine cellphone sale.
The 29-year-old from Delft had arranged to sell his iPhone through Facebook Marketplace on the evening of 24 September. He was reportedly hoping that the money would help cover costs for the couple’s wedding, planned for 4 October.
Initially, Daniels agreed to meet the buyer at a petrol station in Ottery. However, two women later contacted him and requested that the meeting be moved to a nearby shop, claiming that their father intended to purchase the phone.
He was accompanied by his cousin and the cousin’s young son. Upon arrival at the shop, the women reportedly asked him to unlock and sync the phone to confirm its authenticity.
Tragically, the meeting turned into an ambush. A gunman appeared, demanded valuables, and held the child at gunpoint before shooting Daniels, who died at the scene.
Police investigate shooting as suspects arrested
Additionally, an 18-year-old male sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, while a 45-year-old man escaped without injury. Police have since opened cases of murder and attempted murder following the shooting.
According to Cape Town Etc., Daniels’s family described him as kind and responsible, with plans to build a life with his partner. The wedding date was reportedly chosen to coincide with his fiancé’s birthday.
Police confirmed that two women have been arrested in connection with the case, while a male suspect remains under police guard in hospital as investigations continue.
