(The Post News)– A young man from Delft has gone missing near the rocks at Bakoven, and rescue teams are working nonstop to find him. The 18-year-old was last seen early Saturday morning while spending time with friends near the shoreline. Emergency crews were called after reports that the group had been on the rocks when the Delft teen disappeared. Officials believe he may have fallen into the sea as the tide came in.
According to a joint study by the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) and the University of Cape Town, drowning is one of the leading causes of accidental death among young people in South Africa. This is especially true in coastal provinces like the Western Cape, where ocean conditions can change quickly.
In response, police divers, rescue swimmers, and other emergency workers quickly arrived to help. Boats, drones, and patrol teams were sent out to search the water, the rocks, and the nearby coast. A rescue craft from the National Sea Rescue Institute also joined the effort.
