(The Post News) – Orlando Pirates delivered a convincing display at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday, 30 September 2025 as they defeated TS Galaxy 2-0, with Tshegofatso Mabasa’s late strike sealing the points for the Buccaneers.
Starting Lineup With Familar Faces
The Soweto giants recalled several familiar faces to the starting lineup, with Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Lebone Seema, Evidence Makgopa, Sihle Nduli, and Relebohile Mofokeng, while youngster Masindi Nemtajela earned his first league start.
In the first half Pirates nearly had a fast start just 5 minutes in when Tshepang Moremi unleashed a first-time shot that came off the inside of the post. Their persistence paid off in the 14th minute, as Makgopa hit the net from the penalty spot after Nemtajela was brought down in the box.
With high momentum, Pirates pressed for a second goal. Mofokeng set up Kamogelo Sebelebele shortly after, but Galaxy goalkeeper Ira Tape produced a fine stop.
Galaxy enjoyed a bit of momentum after the difficult start and aimed a response through a curling shot from the wide areas by Puso Dithejane that was saved by Sipho Chaine.
As the second half commences, Pirates almost extended their lead when Mbokazi and Seema combined at the back-post. Substitute Oswin Appollis later set up Deon Hotto, who forced another strong save from Tape.
Galaxy’s best chance came in the dying minutes when Mory Keita unleashed a close-range strike, but Chaine once again stood tall. Few minutes later Pirates struck at the back of the net, as Hotto swung in a dangerous cross and substitute Mabasa rose highest to head into the bottom corner, making the Buccaneers lead with 2:0.
Pirates Fans Leaves Comments
Pirates fans expressed their excitement as the Buccaneers move to the third position in the log. “The boys played with hunger, and Mabasa showed once again why he’s our go-to striker,” said Bandile Mathe in a facebook post.
Mathe added that “It was a good win, but we wasted too many chances. If we were sharper in front of goal, this game could have been done by halftime.”
