(The Post News)- The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning of isolated and scattered showers across parts of the country, with rain expected along the coastline, adjacent interior, and the southeastern and eastern regions due to the passage of a cold front.
On Thursday, 02 October 2025 at least 30% chance of rainfall is forecast for cities including Mbombela, Durban, Mthatha, and parts of Cape Town.
SAWS reported a Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging winds has also been issued for coastal areas stretching between Richards Bay and Port Edward. “As the cold front exits the country, heavy rainfall is predicted for areas between East London and Polokwane on Friday,” SAWS said in a statement.
The weather forecaster explained that the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is currently in a neutral state. However, rapid cooling in recent weeks could lead to a weak La Niña event within the next month if predictions materialise.
“For South Africa, this translates into generally favourable rainfall conditions for the summer rainfall areas in the North-Eastern parts of the country, and as mentioned above, is expected to increase the likelihood of flooding during summer,” SAWS said.
According to SAWS heavy rainfall is expected in the North West, parts of the Free State, KwaZulu Natal, and sections of the Eastern Cape.
