(The Post News)– Nineteen people are missing after a massive explosion took place at the explosives manufacturing facility in Tennessee on Friday, 10 October 2025, sending shockwaves that rattled homes miles away and left a trail of wreckage across Humphreys County.
Authorities reported that the Tennessee blast occurred around 7:45 a.m. at Accurate Energetic Systems, a company that manufactures explosives for military and demolition purposes. The explosion obliterated one of the plant’s main buildings, scattering debris and mangled vehicles across the Tennessee Military Explosives site.
Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis described the aftermath as “the most devastating scene that I’ve seen in my career.” “We’re missing 19 souls. I always wish for the best. Is there a possibility that somebody might be injured somewhere, or somebody that we don’t know about? Yes,” said Davis.
Davis revealed that investigators from multiple agencies, including federal agents and the Tennessee Highway Patrol Special Operations Unit, have joined the search and investigation. “Do I see a short-term explanation? No. Do I see us being here for many days? Yes, I do see that,” he added.
According to spokesperson Casey Stapp, three people with minor injuries were taken to TriStar Health facilities in nearby Dickson. “Two people have been released, and one remains under observation at an emergency room,” Stapp said.
The explosion’s force was so powerful that it was felt as far as 20 miles away. Residents reported homes shaking and windows rattling for several seconds. Gentry Stover, who lives near the facility, said, “I thought the house had collapsed with me inside of it. I live very close to Accurate, and I realized about 30 seconds after I woke up that it had to have been that.”
Cody Warren, who lives about 21 miles away in Lobelville, said the sound woke him up. “It was so loud I thought lightning struck my house,” he told local reporters.
Hickman County Mayor Jim Bates said one building at the site was “completely destroyed,” and that officials are still trying to determine how many employees were inside at the time. “It’s pretty devastating to see this. This facility manufactures not only military explosives but also those used for demolition and road work. The investigation is going to go on for days,” Bates said.
Authorities have secured the site, but recovery operations are ongoing. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
