(The Post News)- Strikers’ coach at Manchester United, Benni McCarthy, is still waiting to hear whether his contract will be renewed, as it reaches an expiration date at the end of June.
Benedict Saul McCharty is a former South African footballer born in the 1970s. His talent was seen at various clubs and the national squad ‘Bafana Bafana’.
He hails from one of the Cape provinces, Cape Town, in the in the Western Cape.
Benny’s career started in the 90s with Seven Stars, headed to Cape Town Spurs on loan, then got a call from abroad wanting Ajax Amsterdam, Celta Vigo, Porto, and West Ham United. He played abroad from 1997 until his return in 2011, playing for the Orlando Pirates for almost a season and a half, then retiring in 2013.
His retirement meant opting for a managerial career.
He started as Assistant Coach at Sint-Truidin (2015) in Belgium, as Cape Town City Head Coach, and as AmaZulu. Manchester United saw potential in him and gave him a position as first-team striker coach.
He started at Manchester United in 2022 for the 2023–24 season.
The club finished in eighth place in the English Premiership League (EPL) and recently won the FA Cup, claiming a 2-1 victory over Manchester City.
Benni McCarthy’s contract is about to end this June, and the club has not said anything about him. Sources predict that his contract might not be renewed.
With the Manchester United cohort, Diski Times reports that Benni recently discussed getting back into management in a conversation with Robert Marawa.
The publication further details that he suggested that if an opportunity comes from the Kaizer Chiefs, he will have to think about it. “You don’t say no to an institution,” McCarthy added.
Cape Town City has not yet communicated about their renewal with the club’s head coach. One would say they are eyeing their former coach.
