(The Post News)- Morocco qualifies for U20 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday in Valparaíso, Chile, as they qualified for the finals after heroic victory over France (1-1, 5-4 on penalties).
Under coach Mohamed Ouahbi’s guidance, Morocco’s young stars accomplished what the nation had long dreamed of, qualifying to play at the FIFA world cup. It was a historic milestone that reflected the steady growth of Moroccan football, driven by the Royal Vision and the extensive development work of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
From the opening whistle, the Lion Cubs showed relentless determination and high intensity. Their early pressure paid off when Baouf was fouled in the box by Le Borgne after a well-placed corner. Following a VAR review, the Uruguayan referee awarded a penalty. Yassir Zabiri, one of Morocco’s standout players throughout the tournament, took the spot kick his effort struck the post, bounced off the French goalkeeper, and crossed the line. Morocco led 1–0 at halftime, to the delight of the Chilean fans who had adopted the spirited North African side.
The team continued to press forward, with Zahouani and Maamma both coming close to extending the lead. France, unable to match Morocco’s pace and tactical organization, struggled to find their rhythm.
In a dramatic finish, substitute goalkeeper Abdelhakim El Mesbahi entered late in extra time and became the hero, saving the decisive penalty as Morocco triumphed 5–4 in the shootout on Wednesday to advance to their first-ever Under-20 World Cup final.
The Lion Cubs will now face Argentina, who edged Colombia 1–0 to reach their eighth final in the history of the tournament.
