(The Post News) – The South African Weather Service (Saws) has issued a heatwave alert for parts of the Northern and Western Cape, warning that extreme temperatures and fire dangers will persist until Wednesday.
SAWS reported in its latest weather forecast for Tuesday, 21 October 2025, that extreme high fire danger and heatwave conditions are expected over the Kamiesberg Local Municipality in the Northern Cape and the Bergrivier Local Municipality in the Western Cape.
A heatwave with persistently high temperatures is also expected over the Richtersveld Local Municipality in the Northern Cape and the Matzikama Local Municipality in the Western Cape. SAWS stated that residents in these areas should take precautions against heat-related illnesses and avoid open flames that could spark fires.
“Very hot and uncomfortable conditions are expected over the West Coast district in the Western Cape and the Kamiesberg Local Municipality in the Northern Cape until Wednesday, resulting in very uncomfrtable heatwave,” SAWS said.
Elsewhere in the country, weather conditions are expected to be milder. In Gauteng, it will be partly cloudy in the south, while the rest of the province can expect cloudy and cool conditions with isolated showers and thundershowers. The Free State will be warm in the west, otherwise partly cloudy and cool, becoming fine by late afternoon.
SAWS urged communities in fire prone and heatwave areas to remain vigilant, as hot and dry conditions could lead to the rapid spread of wildfires.
