(The Post News)- Steve Kompela is among the shortlisted candidates for the position of head coach at Tanzania’s Simba SC for the 2024/25 season.
Kompela is a 56-year-old former Bafana Bafana head coach. He has also served most football clubs in South Africa and was mostly seen at Maritzburg United, Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, Moroka Swallows, and last season at Lamontville Golden Arrows.
The club directors seem not to be impressed with their club head coach, Abdelhak Benchika after finishing the Ligi Guru Bara League at position 3 and failing to promote the club to the Confederation of African Football Champions (CAF).
Kompela was amongst the players who left Moroka Swallows following tools down. Alleging that the club did not pay him and the players.
Local football fans have taken to social media to praise Kompela, expressing their support that he should seize the opportunity to become Simba’s new head coach.
Despite the challenges Kompela has faced, Simba is deliberating on whom to approach with an official offer for the new head coach position. The contenders include ASEC Mimosas head coach, Julien Chevalier.
Steve Kompela has a very good statistic, according to Be Soccer, he played 65 matches, won 22, drew 22, and lost 21. In these 65 matches, winning is 33.85%, drawn at 33.85% and losing at 32.31%.
Whereas Julien has 21 matches, won 13, drawn 6, and lost 2. With an overall performance of winning 61.9%, drawing 28.57%, and losing at 9.52%.
