(The Post News)- Alleged crime boss Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala has dismissed WhatsApp messages. He claims his phone was tampered with. He also asserts that some of the communications were “fabricated” to implicate him.
CAT Matlala Denies WhatsApp Messages
On Thursday, 27 November 20205 Matlala appeared before the ad hoc committee investigating police corruption at the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Center in Pretoria. During the probe, he was questioned about messages purportedly showing him discussing the political killings task team (PKTT) with Mogotsi.

The committee has earlier heard allegations. These allegations claim that Mogotsi acted as a middleman between Minister of Water and Sanitation, Senzo Mchunu, and Matlala. The pair was central to an alleged criminal infiltration of law enforcement structures. This includes the controversial disbandment of the PKTT.
But Matlala rejected the authenticity of the messages presented to him.
“Remember I spoke to you about the WhatsApps. Some of them are fabricated. I said I want to discuss the chairperson about them,” he told the committee.
He further denied any involvement in the alleged efforts to shut down the PKTT. He said he had no authority to influence SAPS decisions.
“I don’t know what power I would have to disband the unit from the SAPS. What I heard from my affidavit is that the thing was planned, I think, way back in 2019,” he said.
Matlala also sought to downplay suggestions that he had close ties to senior police officials or government ministers. He distanced himself from claims that he played a role in political or operational decisions tied to the task team.
