Russia launched a wave of missile and drone attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions on Saturday, just ahead of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s crucial meeting with US President Donald Trump in Florida. The attacks, which included Russian drones targeting the capital and regions in the northeast and south, have left the city on high alert, with an air raid warning remaining in effect for hours.

Revised 20-Point Plan
The meeting between Zelenskiy and Trump is expected to focus on territorial control and security guarantees, aiming to end nearly four years of conflict. A 20-point draft peace plan, driven by the US, is reportedly 90% complete, with a security guarantee agreement between Ukraine and the US almost ready.
Zelenskiy emphasized the importance of legally binding provisions to prevent further Russian aggression, citing failed guarantees in the past. Trump, however, asserted that the US is the driving force behind the process, saying “He doesn’t have anything until I approve it”.
The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power station, Europe’s largest, remains a critical point of contention, with Russia seeking control and Ukraine wanting the fighting halted at current lines. A US compromise proposes a free economic zone if Ukraine withdraws from parts of Donetsk, but details are still unclear.
Zelenskiy is willing to put the 20-point plan to a referendum if the US doesn’t back Ukraine’s position on territory, provided Russia agrees to a 60-day ceasefire. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov expressed optimism about reaching a turning point in negotiations, despite differences in the 20-point plan.
The situation remains tense, with Russia continuing to attack Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and stepping up attacks on Odesa. Zelenskiy plans to discuss applying more pressure on Russia with Trump.
