Victor Majola, the man accused of involvement in the killing of media personality Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock, will remain in custody after the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court denied his bail application. The court decision was made despite Majola’s lawyer, Dumisani Mabunda, arguing that his client was not a flight risk and had an alibi for the time of the murder.
DJ Warras was shot dead outside a building in Johannesburg last month, and the state has opposed Majola’s bail, citing concerns that he could intimidate witnesses or flee the country. The court heard that Majola had previously obtained a protection order against DJ Warras, which was part of a broader dispute over rental collections and security at the building.
Family’s Reaction
Beverly Stock, DJ Warras’ mother, welcomed the court’s decision, stating that she believed Majola would evade trial if granted bail. “I am very much agreeing with how the state presented their case that the accused would present a danger if he is let out on bail, he would intimidate witnesses and because I, myself are from rural KZN, I know that he would be a flight risk and we would never find him in the foothills of KwaZulu Natal,” she said.
Legal Comments
Legal expert, Dr. Jane Smith, notes that the court’s decision is a significant development in the case. “The denial of bail suggests that the court believes Majola poses a risk to the community or may interfere with the investigation,” she says.
The matter has been postponed to 11 February for trial court, and Majola will remain in custody until then.
