(The Post News) – March and March leader Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma has apologised for her social media posts about Venda and Tsonga communities.
In her posts which dated a while back on X, Ngobese-Zuma made comments which have been described as tribalist and colourist towards Venda and Tsonga communities. The posts recently sparked backlash from both groups, who called the remarks divisive. The posts have been deleted on X.
Ngobese-Zuma said the posts were made years ago when when she was younger. She further explained that the posts were part of ongoing banter with other users on X at the time, stating that such exchanges were not widely condemned during that period. She added that many of her tweets from the same time were made in defence of Zulu people, arguing that the online environment then was different from today’s standards.
The March and March leader said she now understands that the remarks about Venda and Tsonga communities were harmful, regardless of the context in which they were posted.
“To the people I have hurt and disappointed, please forgive me. I may not deserve it, but I would appreciate it. I understand that it is not easy to view these posts as anything other than what they are, and I take full responsibility for them. I apologise for anything I might have said in the past. That is not who I am now,” said Ngobese-Zuma.
