( The Post News )– Shebeshxt, whose real name is Lehlogonolo Chauke, returns to the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court to continue his bid for bail today.
His court appearance comes months after his arrest in Lebowakgomo with fans and critics watching closely to see if the ‘Twerka’ hitmaker will walk free. He was arrested during a joint operation between the Provincial Investigation Unit and the Provincial Tracking Team on 12 November last year. Police also seized Chauke’s vehicles for forensic analysis as part of an ongoing investigation. The arrest stems from an incident that occurred on 19 October 2025, on Witklip Street in Ladanna, outside Polokwane in Limpopo. Chauke is accused of shooting a 34-year-old man after an alleged road rage incident. He faces two counts of attempted murder.
Confirming the arrest at the time, Limpopo Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, said the police were taking the matter very serious. “A dedicated team was appointed to ensure that no stone was left unturned. The South African Police Service reiterates that no one is above the law, regardless of their social standing,” said Hadebe.
The Polokwane Magistrate’s Court previously denied Shebeshxt bail in December last year. The magistrate ruled that the rapper failed to prove exceptional circumstances for release and that granting bail would not be in the interests of justice.
How Shebeshxt Turned Street Bars Into Sold-Out Shows
Born in Lebowakgomo, Shebeshxt flipped Limpopo’s underground scene on its head with his raw Lekompo sound. His hit songs ‘Twerka’ and ‘Ambulance’ did not just go viral; they became anthems for the kasi, turning local gigs into sold-out chaos and pushing his streams into the millions. His career has not been without tragedy. In June 2025, he lost his daughter in a car accident on the R37 near Polokwane.
