ANC Deputy President, Paul Mashatile dedicated to show that the spirit of Mandela lives on through acts of kindness and solidarity.
(The Post News)- In the spirit of Ubuntu and continuing the legacy of Nelson Mandela, the African National Congress (ANC) has marked Mandela Day with a series of events in Philippi, Cape Town, aimed at supporting the community affected by recent floods. Deputy President Paul Mashatile and Secretary General Nomvula Mokonyane visited the area to extend a hand of support to the victims through the ANC’s food resilience and poverty alleviation program.
The ANC leaders donated seeds and blankets at Noluthando, one of the homes for the elderly, and shared a meal with the residents in a gesture that echoes the values of community service and solidarity that Mandela Day embodies. The day is not only a celebration of Mandela’s achievements but also a call to action to make a positive difference in the communities, a sentiment strongly expressed in the ANC’s media statement.
“Mandela Day is not just a celebration of one man’s achievements, but a call to action for each of us to make a positive difference in our communities,” the ANC statement read. “This call to service is more relevant now than ever as we face the ongoing challenges of inequality, poverty, and injustice.”
The ANC’s commitment to Mandela’s legacy was evident as NEC members, including Comrade Tandi Mahambehlala and Comrade Steve Letsike, shared words of empathy and compassion with the families affected by the floods. The visit to the Noluthando Senior Club Centre was part of a broader initiative to engage with the community in ways that reflect Mandela’s values of service and solidarity.
Mandela, known for his profound wisdom and commitment to equality and justice, once said, “It is in your hands to create a better world for all who live in it.” His words resonate with the actions taken by the ANC on this day, as they strive to uphold his vision of a just society.
Mandela Day means more to the ANC than just remembrance; it is a reaffirmation of their dedication to a national dialogue and the principles Mandela stood for. It is a day of a beacon of hope and a call to action, urging everyone to contribute 67 minutes of their time—one minute for every year of Mandela’s public service—to make a positive impact. The ANC’s efforts in Philippi are a reflection of this call, demonstrating that the spirit of Mandela lives on through acts of kindness and solidarity.
The ANC’s efforts in Philippi on Mandela Day represent a continuation of the struggle for a better society, one that Mandela dedicated his life to. The seeds and blankets are more than just gifts; they symbolize hope and the ongoing commitment to growth and solidarity in the face of adversity.
