(The Post News)- A recent incident at Pretoria High School for Girls has brought racial tensions to the forefront, resulting in the suspension of a Grade 12 learner. A video, which surfaced online in February 2024, showed the learner making comments with potential racial connotations, prompting widespread outrage and forcing the school to take immediate action.
The School Governing Body suspended the learner on July 31, 2024, and initiated a formal disciplinary procedure. This incident has raised concerns about racial difficulties at the school, particularly in light of the principal’s recent suspension due to racism-related charges.
The Gauteng Department of Education has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining an inclusive and welcoming environment for all students. Spokesperson Steve Mabona emphasized the importance of addressing incidents that compromise the principles of equality and inclusivity.
The department has urged patience during the disciplinary procedure and encouraged anyone with additional information to come forward. The outcome of this case may set a precedent for addressing similar incidents in the future, making the results highly anticipated.
