(The Post News)- Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet is facing a growing crisis as Defence Minister Yoav Gallant publicly criticizes the prime minister’s strategy on the Gaza conflict and ceasefire negotiations.
Gallant’s comments have sparked concerns within Netanyahu’s office, with some cabinet members accusing him of promoting an anti-Israel narrative and undermining efforts to negotiate a ceasefire.
The prime minister’s office has reminded Gallant of his two main objectives as defence minister: defeating Hamas and securing the release of hostages held in Gaza.
As the cabinet crisis deepens, Israel is facing a critical choice between negotiating a ceasefire with Hezbollah in Lebanon and Gaza, or risking a regional war.
Gallant has described Netanyahu’s slogan of “absolute victory” over the Gaza conflict as “nonsense”, exposing a significant division within the cabinet on the ongoing war.
The threat of retaliation from Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has added to the pressure on Netanyahu’s government.
Gallant has faced questioning from the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee in Israel’s parliament over the limited military action taken against Lebanon.
Both Gallant and Netanyahu are facing charges of crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court, including starvation of civilians and intentional attacks on civilians.
The cabinet crisis has sparked a heated debate within Israel over the government’s handling of the Gaza conflict and ceasefire negotiations.
