(The Post News)- On 13 August 2024, during her unannounced visit to Home Affairs, Phuthaditjhaba regional office in Qwaqwa- Free State, the executive mayor of Maluti A Phofung (MAP) local municipality, Malekula Melato, was very happy to see the huge development in water supply challenge.
This follows the significant water supply challenge that was faced by the office and thus, unable to render the required services to the public. The toilets were not functioning properly due to unavailability of water.
For this reason, the employees were forced to knock off at 11am forcing the local office to suspend it’s daily operations.
However, the office manager, Tshweu Majoro, confirmed to the executive mayor that at the moment, the problem is water under the bridge as the services are back to normal after spending more than three months without running properly. Melato was very happy about the big improvement in water challenges.
Earlier this year, the community of Qwaqwa and Kestel were complaining about the poor services rendered by the office. During the water crisis, the office was rendering the services for just 3 hours per day while a stampede in and outside the building from people who were applying for Smart Identity cards, passports, death, and birth certificates was waiting.
Furthermore, another challenging problem for this office was a poor network system which took multiple months before coming back to normal. Finally, the clients are getting services that run smoothly as normal as anticipated.
