Lufthansa launches new Johannesburg-Munich route and expands South African operations with increased flights and luxury Allegris seat cabins.
(The Post News)- Europe’s second-largest airline, Lufthansa, is expanding its South African operations with a new route between Johannesburg and Munich, Germany.
Â
The year-round flights will start on September 3, with three weekly flights operated by an A350-900 aircraft, offering business, premium economy, and economy classes.
Â
This new route adds to Lufthansa’s existing direct flight from Johannesburg to Frankfurt.
In November, Lufthansa will also introduce a direct seasonal flight between Cape Town and Munich, which will increase to daily departures next summer.Â

The airline’s luxury Allegris First and Business Class cabins will be featured on the Cape Town and Munich routes.

Munich is a major city in Germany, famous for Oktoberfest and home to international companies like BMW, Siemens, and Allianz.Â
Â
The new route is part of Lufthansa’s expansion plans, which include increasing flights to Cape Town and introducing new routes to Frankfurt, London, and the US east coast.Â

Qantas is working on a commercial agreement to launch flights between Perth and Johannesburg, investing AU$3 billion over 12 years.Â
Â
Norse Atlantic Airways will also start a new route from London Gatwick to Cape Town in October, giving travellers more options.
Â
Lufthansa will introduce its luxury Allegris seat cabins to and from Cape Town on October 27, offering four additional seat options in Allegris Business Class.

Lufthansa is investing 2.5 billion euros in its biggest product and service upgrade, set to be completed by 2025. As part of this expansion, the airline will increase its weekly flights to Munich from five to seven, offering a total of 17 weekly flights to its hubs in Frankfurt, Munich, and Zurich.
