Dihlabeng women in uniform were honoured by the local municipality and urged to put even more effort into curbing crime in the communities.
(The Post News)- Dihlabeng local municipality in the Free State had, on 29 August 2024, honoured women in uniform for the extraordinary work they do to change and shape the lives of different people in the municipality. The event was celebrated to close the women’s month with a high note.
The executive mayor, Tseki Tseki, applauds the good work that women in uniform are doing in the communities and wishes them well as their month is coming to an end. Tseki said the women in uniform keep working harder even under the daily challenges that they come across.
He further requested the communities to work hands-on with them to help curb the crime. “We are very pleased to be recognised by the executive mayor for the work that we do. This is a huge respect the municipality gave us because I never thought that there was someone who recognises the difficulties we come across in our daily duties,” says one of the female police officers who did not want to be identified.
Jwalane Moeketsi, a female community leader told The Post News she wishes them well and requested them to add even more to what they have entrusted. Moeketsi adds that her wish is to see crime stats in the communities drop.
Meanwhile, Police Minister, Senzo Mchunu had this morning indicated that crimes like murder, rape, and hijacking have increased in the country. Mchunu said rape cases in the country have climbed from 9,252 to 9,309 which is a 0,6% increase.
In addition, out of over 6,000 murders in the first quarter, about 2,686 of those were committed using firearms. “To the people of South Africa, I assure you that we are unwavering in our resolve to fight crime.”
In attendance were EMS, SANDF, SAPS, working on the fire, liquor board, Department of Health, Rhino force, Department of Correctional Services, and local and provincial traffic departments.
