Mzansi top actor Thembinkosi Mthembu stands out with four nominations at the SAFTAs18.
(The Post News)- The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) has announced the nominees for the 18th Annual South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs18), with top TV shows ‘Shaka iLembe’, ‘The River’, and ‘Gqeberha: The Empire’ dominating the list.
Tshedza Pictures leads the pack with 29 nominations, followed closely by Burnt Onion Productions with 22 nominations. Bomb Shelter Film Company received 20 nominations, with 17 of those for the hit series ‘Shaka iLembe’.
The Rivers lead actress and executive producer, Sindi Dlathu, has received two nominations, making her a nominee across all six seasons. Thembinkosi Mthembu received four nominations for his roles in ‘Shaka iLembe’, ‘Adulting’, and ‘Outlaws’.
PThis showcases his versatility and range as an actor, earning him recognition in multiple categories.The SAFTAs have introduced five new categories this year, including Best Achievement in Visual Effects (VFX) and Original Song categories.
The public can also participate in voting for Best TV Presenter and Most Popular Telenovela or Soap.“Rise: The Siya Kolisi Story”, a biographical film produced by Orange Films and Star Films, has earned three SAFTA nominations, recognising its exceptional storytelling and production quality. Crown Chasers”, a popular pageant show produced by Weil Entertainment, received a nomination, acknowledging its appeal and production excellence.
The Showmax Original series DAM Season 2, produced by Picture Tree, has received six SAFTA nominations in various categories, including: Best Directing (Alex Yazbek), Best Cinematography (Tom Marais) , Best Original Music/Score (Brendan Jury) ,Best Sound (David Oosthuizen), Best Art Direction (Sue Steele) and Best Visual Effects (Mushroom Media)This twisted and thrilling series has impressed the SAFTA judges with its exceptional production quality.
The awards ceremony will recognise excellence in South African film and television, with winners announced at a later date
