(The Post News)- The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) launched a deadly airstrike on a tent camp in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, killing 40 people and injuring 60 others. The attack, which occurred on Tuesday, targeted a humanitarian zone designated to shelter Palestinians whose homes had been destroyed in previous Israeli strikes.
The missile strike, which consisted of four precision-guided munitions, reduced 20 tents to ashes and caused others to collapse, leaving a scene of utter devastation. Footage shared on social media platforms shows the aftermath of the attack, with rescuers and bystanders working together to dig through the rubble and sand to reach those trapped beneath.
The IDF claimed that the attack was aimed at Hamas terrorists allegedly operating in the area, responsible for the October attack in Israel. However, Hamas rejected these claims, accusing Israel of disregarding international law and perpetrating a brutal assault against Palestinian civilians.
As the Gaza civil emergency service team continues to search for survivors, the death toll is expected to rise. The attack has sparked widespread condemnation, with many decrying the disproportionate use of force by Israeli forces and the targeting of a humanitarian zone.
