(The Post News)- The Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court in Johannesburg East has rescheduled the case against Zizi Kodwa, the former Sports, Arts, and Culture Minister, and his co-accused Jehan Mackay, the former executive for Enterprise Outsourcing Holdings (EOH), to October 3.
Both Kodwa and Mackay are accused of breaking both the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities and the Prevention of Organised Crimes Act.
Furthermore, it is alleged that Kodwa received bribes from Mackay in the form of cash, luxurious accommodation, and other gratifications totaling more than R1.7 million as compensation for government contracts.Currently, Kodwa and Mackay are out on R30 000 bail, and they plan to enter a not guilty plea trial.
While the case had previously been postponed to today for the Director of Public Prosecutions’ (DPP) decision on Mackay’s representation, the second accused, Kodwa’s legal representative, complained about the delays in the case, arguing that they are ready for trial and the delays are causing irreparable harm to Kodwa.
According to Zola Majavu, who is the legal representative for Kodwa, his client has had to resign from his duties as an “office bearer” because of this fraudulent case, which he accepts.
Majavu argued that because Kodwa is co-charged and the overall effect of the delays directly affects his client, he issued a notice in advance stating that if there are any delays today (Tuesday, September 10) that are unrelated to his client, they ought to contemplate bringing a motion for a separation of trial.
