(The Post News)- The search for 26-year-old Nomsa Jass came to an appalling conclusion when her body was found in Carletonville, Gauteng, on Sunday after she went missing for two weeks. Jass’s body was found partially decomposed in bushes on the R559 road near the turnoff to Blybank on Sunday night in Carletonville. She was last seen on August 25 after leaving her place of work in Potchefstroom, North West.
Jass did not return to work on 26 August, after which her employer contacted her family. Police visited her apartment in Meyer Street, Potchefstroom, but could not find her car, a dark grey Volkswagen Polo.
On August 28, police found her car abandoned in the car park of Daveyton Mall, near Benoni.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani, said the police received information from a credible source about where Nomsa’s body had been dumped, and they found her about 50 meters from the R559 road in Blybank.
Funani said an intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of a suspect on Sunday, 8 September 2024.
The 29-year-old Mozambican national suspect, Sinethembe Mabaso, appeared before the Oberholzer Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder, kidnapping, and vehicle theft on Tuesday, said communication officer of the police in the North West, Colonel Adele Myburgh. The case was postponed to September 16.
North West and Gauteng police commissioners, Lieutenant-General Sello Kwena and Lt.-Gen. Tommy Mthombeni, welcomed Mabaso’s arrest and congratulated the arresting officers. They said they would strive to ensure justice prevailed.
