(The Post News)- Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) President Idriss Diallo has pledged unwavering support for Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe’s potential re-election bid. Diallo’s sentiments come as CAF prepares for its 2025 elections, with Motsepe yet to confirm whether he’ll seek a second term.
Speaking from his Abidjan office, Diallo described Motsepe as a “gift to African football,” highlighting his transformative leadership, passion, and honesty. “If he decides to run, I’m convinced he’ll win unopposed,” Diallo emphasized. “Patrice has brought unprecedented growth and success to African football, and continuity is essential.”
Diallo’s backing carries significant weight, given FIF’s influential position within the West African Football Union (WAFU-B) zone. As a key player in CAF elections, Diallo’s endorsement could sway other regional federations to support Motsepe’s re-election.
Under Motsepe’s leadership, CAF has experienced remarkable growth, including a surge in sponsorship deals and infrastructure development. The 2023 African Cup of Nations in Côte D’Ivoire, which Diallo helped organize, was hailed as one of the most successful tournaments in African football history.
Diallo praised Motsepe’s positive attitude, integrity, and commitment to empowering African football. “Patrice is full of passion, and his honesty is unmatched,” he noted. “He’s always seeking the best in everyone, even in challenging times.”
As CAF elections approach, Diallo’s endorsement serves as a significant boost to Motsepe’s potential re-election campaign. With FIF’s support, Motsepe’s path to a second term appears increasingly clear.
