(The Post News)- Former President Donald Trump faced yet another assassination attempt on September 15, 2024, at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida. This marks the second time in as many months that Trump has been the target of such an attempt.
The incident unfolded when a gunman was spotted near the boundary of Trump’s golf course, prompting the Secret Service to open fire. The suspect, identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was armed with an AK-47 style rifle and a GoPro video camera. Routh, who had expressed support for Ukraine, managed to escape in a black car but was later tracked down by authorities with the help of a witness.

Trump, who was playing golf at the time, was unharmed in the incident. His campaign spokesman, Steven Cheung, confirmed that “President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity.” Trump himself later expressed gratitude to the Secret Service and law enforcement for their prompt action, saying “Fear not! I am safe and well, and no one was hurt. Thank God!”
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has launched an investigation into the incident, which appears to be an attempted assassination of the former President. The Secret Service, who have been under scrutiny since the Pennsylvania shooting, were praised for their quick response in engaging the suspect.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of both candidates in the ongoing presidential race. President Joe Biden emphasized that “there is no place for political violence or for any violence ever in our country.” Vice President Kamala Harris also expressed relief that Trump was unharmed, saying “I am glad he is safe.”
This latest incident has sparked questions about how the suspect was able to get so close to Trump again. Representative Elise Stefanik, the fourth-ranking US House Republican, raised concerns about the lack of answers surrounding the Pennsylvania shooting and demanded a clear explanation of what happened in Florida.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the heightened tensions in the presidential race and the need for increased security measures to protect all candidates. As the investigation continues, one thing is clear – the safety of our leaders must be a top priority.
