(The Post News)- Kurt-Lee Arendse signed with the Sagamihara Dynaboars on Tuesday, making him the most recent Springbok to sign with a Japan Rugby League One team. The 28-year-old former Sevens flyer, who won the Rugby Championship last month with South Africa and the 2023 World Cup, is taking a leave of absence from the Pretoria-based Bulls to play for the Dynaboars.Â
Arendse stated in a news release that he thinks the hard grounds in Japan and the general approach to the game, with its fast pace and plenty of ball movement, are going to suit me.
“Not only am I excited about the rugby, but I’m also excited about the cultural aspect of the experience,” said Arendse.
He is one of the eleven regular Springboks who will play in Japan Rugby League One when the fourth season begins in December.
Glenn Delaney, Dynaboars coach, stated that you simply had to look at Arendse on the field to see his agility, quickness, and strength in beating a defender. Delaney added that Arendse will be a valuable addition, and their homegrown players will benefit greatly from his presence.
The Dynaboars narrowly avoided the relegation playoffs in the 2023–24 season by finishing ninth in the 12-team league.
