(The Post News)- After French football player Kylian Mbappe was accused of rape in Sweden, Real Madrid promptly removed him from their advertising campaign. On Tuesday, Real Madrid posted a campaign photo featuring English star midfielder Jude Bellingham and renowned Brazilian defender Roberto Carlos, with a noticeable empty space between them.
Initially, Bellingham had shared an Instagram photo with Mbappe added to the blank space, but he quickly deleted the post after fans noticed the difference. According to Spanish journalist Romain Molina, Real Madrid held an emergency meeting on Monday night to discuss the allegations against Mbappe.
The incident allegedly occurred during Mbappe’s two-day trip to Sweden, where he was recovering from an injury that kept him out of the France national team. Mbappe had partied with friends and teammate Nordi Mukiele in Stockholm before departing on a private jet on October 11.
A rape case was reported at the hotel where Mbappe stayed on October 10, according to Swedish media reports. The victim filed a complaint with the police, and details of the case have emerged. Police are investigating the hotel after the victim accused Mbappe of being the perpetrator.
Mbappe and his legal team have denied the allegations, calling them unfounded. Notably, Mbappe is involved in a legal battle with his former team, Paris Saint-Germain, which is nearing trial. Mbappe suggested that PSG might be involved in the allegations, but PSG refuted this claim, stating that Mbappe “hasn’t contributed to Real Madrid but already caused trouble.”
Although Mbappe has returned to Real Madrid, he still needs to respond to inquiries from Swedish officials. The ongoing investigation has received significant coverage in French and Spanish media.
In an interview with Le Parisien, Swedish attorney Dahlrot Cabouillet stated, “If there is no evidence of the victim’s consent, either through words or gestures or if the perpetrator was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, it can be considered rape.” Mbappe faces potential conviction if found guilty.
