(The Post News)- Five family members were gunned down on Friday night in Bityi, UMthatha. The South African Police Services (SAPS) have officially launched a manhunt for an unknown number of suspects who gunned down five family members in Bityi near UMthatha, Eastern Cape on Friday night.
The SAPS provincial spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa said, “A husband and wife were sleeping in a rondavel when two men entered and fatally shot them. The men then made their way to another house, where other family members were sleeping firing shots as they approached, resulting in three more deaths and two injuries”, said Mawisa
Mawisa added that two children who were unharmed in the attack ran to a neighboring house, alerting the neighbors. She said three women and two men died in the shooting, while the two injured victims, both minors, were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Eastern Cape police commissioner Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene has condemned the killing of people in the Province and has mobilized all available resources in the hunt for the criminals at large.
