(The Post News)- Antony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, has called on Israel to capitalize on its recent military gains in Gaza, emphasizing the need for a lasting strategic victory. Speaking to reporters before departing for Saudi Arabia, Blinken noted that Israel had achieved most of its strategic objectives in Gaza.
Blinken identified two critical tasks remaining: securing the safe return of hostages and bringing an end to the conflict while considering its aftermath. Simultaneously, US, Israeli, and Egyptian representatives have been exploring a proposal for a temporary ceasefire and hostage release.
The Israeli government has clarified that reoccupying Gaza is not part of its policy. Additionally, Blinken queried Israeli officials about the alleged Generals’ Plan, which Israel rejected as harmful.
The conflict has resulted in devastating humanitarian consequences, with Hamas militants killing approximately 1,200 civilians and kidnapping 250 during their invasion of southern Israel last year. Local health officials report over 42,000 Palestinian casualties.
An Israeli official revealed that Israel’s Security Cabinet discussed an Egyptian proposal for a 12-day truce and the release of six captives. However, Hamas has declined similar proposals, leaving around 100 hostages still in captivity.
