(The Post News)- Former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) member and impeached public Protector Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane has been appointed as the Mpumalanga Convener for the Umkhonto WeSizwe (MK) party on October 25th. The announcement made by MK party President Jacob Zuma during a media briefing held in Sandton, Johannesburg as part of the party’s broader unveiling of its provisional leadership collective.
According to the media statement released by the MK party, party President Jacob Zuma highlighted adv. Mkhwebane’s qualifications and her dedication to justice and equal rights. He also praised her consistency, composure and professionalism as key to guiding Mpumalanga towards stability and growth and is certain that her dedication to justice and experience will be essential in accomplishing the MK party objectives.
Adv. Mkhwebane’s political journey has been marked by notable transitions. In a report by News24, in 2023, Mkhwebane was voted out by the National Assembly followed by impeachment process of section 194 from her role as public protector. She joined the EFF in October last year and her tenure was short-lived as she resigned from the party and parliament on October 16th.
As reported by the SABC, Mkhwebane’s resignation letter explained that she wanted to focus on her family. In her acceptance speech, Mkhwebane joined the MK party because of its understanding of black people’s persecution and how she aligned with the Mk party’s constitution.
She also expressed her sense of belonging and commitment to her new role making it clear that she is not lost but she is at home and she decided to accept the invitation, reflecting on her transition to the MK party, her new political family.
The appointment of Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane as the Mpumalanga Convener for the MK Party marks a significant development, as it seeks to expand its influence and challenge the dominance of the ruling African National Congress.Â
