(The Post News)- 52-year-old Hester and her 82-year-old mother, Cecilia Flemming, have been found dead inside an abandoned mineshaft. Hester and Cecilia were reported missing after an alleged robbery that occurred on Caymen Road near the Eye of Africa mall between 10 p.m. on Friday and the early hours of Saturday morning.
According to reports, the two women were the only ones in the house when the attack happened.
Private investigator Mike Bolhuis, who had been hired by the family, said multiple teams were involved in the frantic search for the two women.
Bolhuis said that since the incident was reported on Saturday, October 26, several teams from the South African Police Services (SAPS), Special Security Services (SSS), National Crime Agency (NCA), Community Policing Forums (CPFs) in and around the area, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), security companies, family, friends, and community members have worked tirelessly to search for the two women.
The two women were first believed to have been kidnapped by the suspected attackers; however, neither the intruders nor the victims made any ransom requests or communicated in any other way.
One man was apprehended in a nearby informal settlement after being discovered in possession of goods belonging to the two murdered women. He appeared briefly before the venison magistrate’s court on Monday and has since been remanded in jail. One car that went missing from the house has yet to be recovered.
