The Jerusalem District Court has denied Benjamin Netanyahu’s request to postpone the testimony in his corruption trial for another 10 weeks.
(The Post News)- The Jerusalem District Court dismissed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s request to postpone testifying at his corruption trial by ten weeks. The court ruled that Netanyahu must testify next month despite Israel’s involvement in the Gaza and Lebanon conflicts.
According to Netanyahu’s legal team, the prime minister could not prepare due to the time constraints of handling a multifront war. However, the court dismissed their remarks, highlighting that he already had five months for preparation. The court believes that by setting the date of December 2 in July, Netanyahu was provided with a significant period of time to prepare for his testimony. According to the court, it was not convinced that a major shift in circumstances had transpired that would justify a revision to the date that was specified on its first decision.
Netanyahu is facing charges of bribery, breach of trust, and fraud in three different but interconnected cases being heard concurrently at the Jerusalem District Court, but he has denied all the charges against him. It is alleged that Netanyahu orchestrated favors for businessmen in exchange for gifts and favorable news coverage for himself and his family.
The trial has been ongoing since 2020, as the court has worked its way through a list of over 300 witnesses. Netanyahu will consequently be called to testify in just under three weeks.
