(The Post News )-Floyd Shivambu, the newly appointed Secretary General of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party, has announced that the party will celebrate its first anniversary with a rally on December 15. The rally, which will be housed at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, will be addressed by the partyās founder and former president, Jacob Zuma.
Shivambu, who joined the MK party in August after resigning from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has grown significantly in the party from being just a member to later on being the partyās organizer and recently being appointed as the Secretary-General following the resignation of Dr. Sifiso Maseko, who was the 4th SG since it was launched.
2024 has been quite eventful for South Africa, especially within the MK party. Seeing the likes of Dali Mpofu joining the party that was founded in December 2023, the party has gained significant followership, particularly in KwaZulu-Natal. The MK party surprised many in the 2024 national elections, securing 14.58% of votes, translating to 58 seats in the National Assembly, making it the third-largest party in the country in just 5 months of its official creation.
The partyās support base is primarily made up of black and colored voters from KZN, and Shivambu emphasized that the MK party will serve the organization, the people of South Africa, and the African continent with diligence, discipline, hard work, honesty, and respect. He has also emphasized the importance of relating with everyone, regardless of their social status, religion, race, gender, age, or political affiliation, with honesty and respect. This will be the partyās first celebration, anxiously awaited by its followers.
