(The Post News)- A hacker gained access to a file containing sworn testimony from two women involved in the investigation of Matt Gaetz, former House member from Florida and President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to lead the Justice Department. According to a source familiar with the matter, the file included testimony from a woman who alleged Gaetz had sex with her when she was 17 years old in 2017. A second woman’s testimony claimed she witnessed the incident, with the information remaining unredacted.
The woman’s representative, Attorney John Clune, stated that they were informed of the unauthorized access by another law firm the previous night. The accessed file contained confidential documents. Gaetz was investigated by the Justice Department for allegedly sex trafficking a 17-year-old girl but was never criminally charged, as he denied the allegations.
The investigation concluded last week after Gaetz resigned from Congress following Trump’s selection of him as his nominee for attorney general. Sources confirmed that a person identifying as Altam Beezely downloaded the sensitive file and hundreds of pages of related sealed documents via a secure link.
The status of the hacked data’s release and any potential law enforcement investigation remains unclear. Rep. Gaetz’s office has not responded to requests for comment. This incident highlights concerns about data breaches and cybersecurity, particularly in sensitive cases involving public figures.
