(The Post News) – Allegations have been made against Jacob Zuma’s uMkonto weSizwe Party, claiming that they engaged in signature forgery to meet the requirements for the upcoming elections on May 29. Several former party members have raised these allegations and informed the authorities in the Western Cape about the inconsistencies they noticed in the submitted documents.
The party supposedly got names, phone numbers, and ID numbers from Cape Metro’s Council database. This database holds info about people looking for jobs who did not sign up to vote for uMkhonto weSizwe. By law, a political party needs at least 15,000 supporter signatures to register for the 2024 elections and get on the national ballot.
Lennox Ntsondo stated that the team, which included him, took approximately 14 days to compile a list of forged signatures at the residence of Faizel Moosa, the secretary general of the MK in Cape Town. According to Ntsondo, the team provided daily progress reports to Fumanekile Booi and Moosa, the chairpersons of the Western Cape, but both individuals denied the allegations made against them. Additionally, the political party dismissed the claims and suggested that a fraud case should be initiated against the former official, as he admitted to being responsible for fraudulently signing individuals’ names.
“We welcome the process. We have no problems with that,” said Nhlamulo Ndlela, the spokesperson for the MK party, addressing the allegations against uMkhonto weSizwe. These accusations cast doubts on our integrity as candidates, and if proven true, could have serious consequences,” said Ndlela. Despite the ongoing investigations, the party denies these claims and pledges full cooperation to ensure adherence to high ethical standards.”
The results of these investigations might spell trouble for uMkhonto weSizwe. It’s not just about how they will fare in the upcoming elections; it’s also about the trust people have in our political system. With corruption and fraud already making folks skeptical, any hint of wrongdoing could shake that trust even more.
