Diplomatic fallout escalates as Washington and London target Iranian regime with fresh sanctions, citing clandestine missile supplies to Russia fueling Ukraine war.
(The Post News)- The United States and United Kingdom have announced stringent sanctions against Tehran, citing conclusive evidence of Iran’s clandestine missile supplies to Russia.
The move comes as US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and British Foreign Secretary David Lammy warned of an imminent escalation in Ukraine, with Russia poised to deploy Iranian ballistic missiles against Ukrainian targets.
Speaking in London, Blinken emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “Russia has now received shipments of these ballistic missiles and will likely use them within weeks in Ukraine, against Ukrainians.”
The joint US-UK statement underscored the urgency of the situation, with Lammy adding, “The supply of Iranian missiles enables Russia to use more of its arsenal for targets that are further from the front line.”
Iran has vehemently denied providing Russia with weapons for use in Ukraine, with its UN mission issuing a statement condemning the supply of military assistance to either side.
However, the US and UK remain resolute in their stance, with Blinken emphasizing, “We will not stand idly by while Iran fuels the flames of conflict in Ukraine.”
