(The Post News)- The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine on Thursday took a devastating turn when the Russians launched a strike targeting the Ukrainian port, which resulted in the loss of at least 8 lives while injuring several, making it the third attack on a civilian vessel in just four days.
According to Ukrainian officials, the Russian attack specifically targeted the port of Odesa, known for its bustling maritime activities, in which, after the strike, the container ship, which was carrying essential goods, was hit by a missile, causing extensive damage and casualties.Â
The region’s governor, Oleh Kiper, has condemned the attack, calling it another crime that Russia committed against civilians.
Following the devastating attack on a civilian vessel, it has once again sparked calls for international action to stop Russia’s aggression towards Ukraine. The European Union and the United States have also condemned the brutal attack as the war is ongoing. However, with these continued attacks, the safety of ships and crews operating in the region has become a major rising concern.
The Ukrainian government has urged the international community to take immediate measures to ensure the safety and security of the region’s waters. The ongoing war in which most people are suffering serves as a reminder for the international community to insist on a ceasefire negotiation, as it is evident that more needs to be done to bring lasting peace to the region. More blood of the innocent has been lost due to this war.
The loss of lives and damage caused by this attack keeps on making things worse for Ukraine, fearing what would happen when the war is over. In the meantime, the investigation into this incident continues, as the nation can only hope for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing tensions between these two nations.
