Cape Town Etc also reported that people expressed their anger on social media, mainly Facebook, highlighting that there are organisations in the area offering safe places for mothers to leave their babies anonymously and without fear. Furthermore, they noted that these two babies were not supposed to be left in a ditch with no one to care for them.
Just two days later, on Wednesday morning, 24 September, another newborn girl was found in a sewerage drain in the Vosho informal settlement on Maroela Road. Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said the baby was declared dead at the scene, and a concealment of birth case has been opened by Kraaifontein police.
Both incidents involving dead newborns in Kraaifontein have left the community in shock. At the moment no arrests have been made, and police are still investigating.
