(The Post News)– Following growing criticism over his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, Prince Andrew decided to renounce his royal titles as the Duke.
After years of criticism, Andrew has stated that he would further distance himself from public life and no longer use his titles or honours. To lessen the continuous attention brought on by the accusations against him, the decision was reached after consulting with King Charles and Prince William.
The title of Duke of York, bestowed upon him by his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, will no longer be held by Prince Andrew. In 2019, he ceased attending formal functions, resigned from royal duties, and lost the right to use his HRH title. It is now anticipated that his public role will further deteriorate.
Prince Andrew Previously Accused of Sexual Assault
The ruling comes after years of controversies, including a civil case that Virginia Giuffre, who claimed Andrew had sexually assaulted her when she was 17, paid out of court. All charges have been repeatedly refuted by the prince.
It is anticipated that Giuffre’s next posthumous book, which is scheduled for publication next week, will re-examine Andrew’s background. Sky Roberts, her brother, called the most recent development “bittersweet,” claiming it provided his late sister with “some form of justice.” Haley Robson and other Epstein victims praised King Charles for approving the judgment, calling it long overdue.
Andrew, who is anticipated to stay at his Windsor residence, Royal Lodge, is still being questioned about his previous relationships, which include financial transactions that have unnecessarily highlighted the Royal Family and a suspected Chinese spy.
The scandals involving Prince Andrew have damaged the monarchy’s reputation despite several denials and settlements, which is why this decisive action was taken to put King Charles and the institution’s larger work back in the forefront.
