(The Post News)- US President Donald Trump has been unofficially handed the Nobel Peace Prize by Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who won the award in October. Trump has been vocal about deserving the Nobel Peace Prize, claiming to have “ended 8 wars in just 8 months” in a social media post titled “the president of peace” last year.
Machado dedicated her Nobel Peace Prize to Trump, sparking reports that Trump didn’t make her president after ousting Nicolás Maduro because she accepted recognition from the Nobel Committee. Trump hosted Machado at the White House, where she presented him with her Nobel Peace Prize medal.
Trump’s Nobel Peace Prize Claim
Trump announced on Truth Social that Machado presented him with her Nobel Prize, calling it a “wonderful gesture of mutual respect”. The White House X account posted a photo of Machado handing Trump a framed plaque with the Nobel Peace Prize medal, with a note expressing gratitude for Trump’s leadership in promoting peace.
Nobel Committee Responds
However, the Nobel Committee clarified that a Nobel Prize cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred to others, stating that “once the announcement has been made, the decision stands for all time”. The committee also emphasized that it will not comment on what Peace Prize Laureates say or do after receiving the award.
Trump’s Peace Efforts
Trump’s claim of ending 8 wars in 8 months has been met with skepticism, with talk show host Jimmy Kimmel joking about the wars Trump had ended, including Star Wars. Machado expressed confidence in Trump’s ability to promote peace, saying “We are counting on President Trump for the freedom of Venezuela”.
