Lebanon has filed a complaint with the United Nations, urging the Security Council to push Israel to end its daily attacks and fully withdraw from the country. The complaint, sent on Monday, cites repeated Israeli violations of the November 2024 ceasefire, calling them a clear breach of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants documented 2,036 Israeli breaches of Lebanon’s sovereignty in the last three months of 2025, with 542 violations in October, 691 in November, and 803 in December. The ministry is calling on the 15-member body to compel Israel to withdraw to internationally recognised borders and release Lebanese prisoners.
Escalating Tensions
The complaint comes a day after Israel launched a wave of air strikes across Lebanon, killing at least two people. Despite the ceasefire, Israel has continued near-daily attacks, resulting in hundreds of civilian casualties. The UN reported at least 127 civilians killed in Israeli attacks as of November 2025.
Occupation and Reconstruction
Israel occupies five points within Lebanese territory, blocking reconstruction of border villages it levelled, preventing displaced people from returning home. The Lebanese government is pushing for Israel’s withdrawal and the release of Lebanese prisoners, including Hezbollah fighters and civilians taken from border villages in 2024.
Prisoners and Missing Persons
Israel is estimated to be holding over a dozen Lebanese prisoners, but has resisted submitting a list, leaving many missing persons’ fates unknown. The Lebanese government is calling for their release and for Israel to account for its actions.
UNIFIL and Peacekeeping
Israeli forces have repeatedly opened fire at UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon, further escalating tensions. The situation remains volatile, with ongoing attacks and counter-attacks.
