(The Post News) – Two brothers accused of murdering rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes and his friend Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane will remain behind bars after a brief appearance in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today.
Siyabonga and Malusi Ndimande’s case has been transferred to the Durban High Court. Extradited from Eswatini last year, the Ndimande siblings were moved to Ebongweni Super Maximum Correctional Facility in Kokstad in January for security reasons. Their trial is set for later this year.
During the court proceedings, Magistrate Ashwin Singh announced that the matter has been transferred to the Durban High Court. He said, “You will appear in the Durban High Court on the 19th of June, 2026, in terms of section 75, subsection 1, paragraph C of Act 51 of 77,” said Singh.
AKA Died Along Close Friend
AKA and his friend, chef and entrepreneur Tebello, were shot dead outside a Durban restaurant in February 2023 before a scheduled performance. AKA’s family has described him as someone who loved as much as he was loved.
“To us Kiernan Jarryd Forbes was a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend; most importantly, a father to his beloved daughter Kairo,” the family said in a statement. AKA, who released three solo albums, was one of South Africa’s most celebrated hip-hop artists.
The incident was described by police as a coordinated hit. Authorities believe AKA was the intended target while Motsoane was not. According to the BBC, the Ndimande brothers lost a lengthy court battle to stop their extradition and were returned to South Africa last year. The pair face murder charges for the deaths of Forbes and Motsoane, as well as charges of attempted murder and unlawful possession of a firearm. They are expected to appear with five co-accused when the trial begins.
