(The Post News)- Months of speculation are over. Vodacom has sealed a major deal with Elon Musk’s Starlink.
The partnership aims to bring lightning fast internet to several African countries. But South Africa is not on the list. The agreement will help bridge Africa’s digital divide. It will deliver broadband internet to rural schools, clinics, and communities that have long been cut off.
Vodacom Confirms Starlink Collaboration
Vodacom says the partnership will also help businesses. The company will resell Starlink’s equipment and services, offering flexible options like pay-as-you-go backup internet and ultra reliable connectivity.
Integrating Starlink’s satellite network into Vodacom’s system will speed up coverage expansion. It will also boost performance in hard-to-reach areas.
“The collaboration will deliver robust connectivity to remote schools, health centers, and communities. Empowering millions with access to digital services and information,” Vodacom said.
Starlink is already active in 25 African markets. South Africa, nevertheless remains excluded. Vodacom plans to use the deal to enhance its 4G, 5G, fiber, and satellite services. “Starlink high performance internet is a perfect addition to our bouquet of customer centric offerings,” Vodacom said.
The move fits Vodacom’s Vision 2030 plan. Which targets 260 million customers and 120 million financial service users within five years. Vodacom is edging closer to universal coverage by harnessing Starlink as a complementary layer. The company is reaffirming its commitment to connecting people to a better future, the company added.
