The Post News – The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has ruled that KwaZulu-Natal Hawks head Lesetja Senona must make himself available until he completes his testimony. The committee’s chairperson, retired Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, made the ruling in Pretoria.
Senona is accused of assisting alleged criminal kingpin Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala to secure a R360 million South African Police Service (SAPS) tender. His legal team had objected, citing an agreement that he would only testify on Tuesday.
The commission is investigating allegations of corruption and misconduct within law enforcement structures. Senona’s testimony is expected to shed light on his associations with Matlala and potential involvement in the tendering process.
Allegations Against Lesetja Senona
Lesetja Senona faces serious allegations, including sharing sensitive police information with Matlala. Witness X testified that Matlala sent Senona three different ID numbers allegedly belonging to President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The Madlanga Commission aims to restore public trust in law enforcement agencies. Senona’s testimony is crucial in determining the extent of corruption and impropriety involving senior officials.
Senona’s Testimony
Senona told the commission that he has a close, long-running relationship with Matlala, but insisted it was strictly social and never benefited Matlala professionally. He denied leaking confidential information or using his position for Matlala’s benefit.
The commission will continue to hear testimony from Senona and other witnesses. The investigation is ongoing, and findings will be made public once completed.
